University of Utah Professor Stacy Bamberg, a mechanical engineer, has developed a smart shoe insole called the Real-Time Rehab system. Developed through her startup company Veristride, this system uses a custom gel insole with force sensors, accelerometers and gyroscopes to detect a person’s gait, or walking pattern.
Bamberg and her colleagues created a smartphone application to wirelessly track data from the insole and provide a variety of instantaneous feedback.
