A record group of high school students from all over the country were on the University of Utah engineering campus Nov. 23 for this year’s “Engineering Day,” the college’s largest outreach event.
The annual Engineering Day provides a day of fun activities for students as they learn about the different engineering disciplines taught in the college, from biomedical engineering to materials science and engineering. Sessions included tours of the Utah Bionic Engineering Lab, the electrical and computer engineering department’s Microsystems Lab, biomedical engineering’s bioDesign Lab, the Entertainment Arts & Engineering studio, and more. There were also science demonstrations and other activities involving such topics as smart sensors for cities of the future, data science, deep brain stimulation, and rock testing in the mining industry.
The day led off with a welcome from College of Engineering Dean Richard B. Brown and also included a student panel and a jobs panel full of U College of Engineering alumni. More than 750 students attended this year’s Engineering Day.
