Some 30 high school students from along the Wasatch Front will attend Meet an Inventor Night at the University of Utah to learn how engineers transform an idea into products and technologies.

Hosted by the College of Engineering, the free event is open the public and media.

Participants will view demonstrations of U engineering senior design projects and inventions, including Origami Kami, a video game based on the Japanese legend of one thousand paper cranes. Players collect cranes from a river. The game soon will be released commercially for the Sony PlayStation PS Vita digital gaming device.

The event features keynote speaker Pete Ashdown, founder of business internet provider XMission, on bringing ideas to reality at 7 p.m. The keynote will be followed by two 30-minute breakout sessions led by U engineering faculty, industrial entrepreneurs and student inventors.

When:
Tuesday, April 22, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Where:
Warnock Engineering Building, 72 S. Central Campus Dr., Salt Lake City.
