One of the main missions for the University of Utah’s College of Engineering is to promote and advance research through commercialization. Cutting-edge research conducted by faculty and students can help millions of people around the world through innovations in medical devices, consumer products and more.
We’re proud of the work we are doing in converting our technological advancements into viable businesses with marketable products. This year’s annual report from the University of Utah’s Center for Technology & Venture Commercialization has just been released, and it highlights the kind of work COE faculty members are doing. One of the main stories features the work of U electrical and computer engineering associate professor Rajesh Menon.
Menon has developed a new lensless camera system that uses a computer algorithm to detect objects in a digital picture. This technology could be helpful in security systems, retina scanners and augmented reality goggles. His project was recently cited in a story from Reuters on why the University of Utah was ranked 30th on a list of the world’s most innovative universities.
