Tips for Engineering Abroad
As an Engineering student you CAN learn abroad if you start planning early. Complete Learning Abroad 101, connect with your academic advisor, and speak to a Learning Abroad coordinator during your freshman year.
Most upper-division courses in Engineering must be taken on campus, so plan on learning abroad during the summer or before your junior year.
Exchange programs are great because they cost the same as tuition at the U and offer courses that let you stay on track to graduate.
Exchange Programs
The University of Utah collaborates with over 30 universities worldwide to allow students to enroll abroad for a semester or academic year and choose from a variety of programs of study.
Below are a few of our exchange partners that offer courses in Engineering:
- University of Waikato: Hamilton, New Zealand
- Hong Kong University of Science and Technology: Hong Kong, China

Affiliate Programs
As a U of U student, you can learn abroad through third-party affiliate programs to participate in general or major-specific programs while earning credit toward your degree. These affiliate programs offer housing, visa, and counseling support as well as cultural excursions.
Below are some of our affiliate programs that offer courses in Engineering:
