Job Type: Internship
Engineering Area(s): Computer Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
Academic Level: Graduates / Alumni (B.S. Degree Required), Senior (Graduating Soon), Junior
Kyonia is a pet-tech startup pioneering the world’s first dog harness with an integrated, patent-pending airbag system. Learn more about our mission and technology at www.Kyonia.com. We’re looking for engineering interns to:
-Perform computer simulations (e.g., FEA/CFD) to validate the harness’s structural integrity, CO₂-deployed airbag behavior, and trigger mechanism functionality.
-Explore material science alternatives for the airbag fabric and harness components, evaluating options beyond traditional automotive airbag materials.
-Collaborate on design improvements and help prepare prototypes for live crash tests (travel to a partner crash-test lab may be available).
-Work closely with our Founder & CEO and manufacturing partners to ensure product readiness before market launch.
Desired Qualifications
-Current enrollment or recent graduation in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.
-Familiarity with mechanical simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation).
-Strong problem-solving skills; ability to adapt in a startup environment.
(For current students) Professor reference required, e.g., a letter or email recommendation.
What We Offer
-Project-Based Contract: We’ll establish a fixed contract for the simulation and design validation phase. After successful completion, we’ll negotiate a competitive hourly rate if we extend the scope of work.
-Hands-on Experience: Real-world engineering challenges in a cutting-edge pet-safety product.
-Potential Travel: Opportunity to observe live crash tests at our partner facility.
-Academic Credit & Media Exposure: If applicable, we can work with your institution for credit. There may also be media coverage of this innovative safety product.
Application Instructions
Please send your resume, a brief cover letter, and (if still a student) a reference from a professor to President@rdinno.com explaining your relevant experience and why you’re excited about developing airbag technology for canine safety.
